Caring for your Ataya products

All Ataya swimwear fabrics deserve mindful care to maintain their look, fit, and longevity:

  • Avoid snagging against rough pool edges, jewellery, beach bags, or playful little hands and paws.
  • Avoid contact with suntan lotions, oils, bleach, or harsh detergents.
  • Always rinse in cold water after wear to remove salt, sand, or chlorine.
  • Avoid hot tubs and spas, as strong chemicals can cause fading.
  • Do not wring or twist your garment; instead, gently press out excess water.
  • Hand washing and drying flat in the shade is best. A gentle machine wash in cold water is acceptable.
  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight while wet, and store flat or gently folded.

Treat your garment well, and it will remain looking like new for many seasons.

Caring for Your Crinkle

Like any luxury knit, crinkle fabric deserves mindful care. Its textured weave can be more delicate than traditional swimwear fabrics, so avoid snagging against rough pool edges, jewellery, beach bags or playful little hands and paws. Because it absorbs more water, it naturally takes longer to dry—so resist the urge to wring it out, as this can distort its recovery. Instead, rinse in cold water and lay flat or hang to dry. Some styles allow for a gentle machine wash, but the best way to preserve the integrity of your swimsuit is with hand care and patience.

Treat it well, and your crinkle garment will remain as flattering and flexible as the day you first wore it.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

All of our swimwear is crafted in a solar-powered swimwear facility, where production is driven by clean, natural energy. On bright equatorial days, excess solar power is returned to the local grid; on cloudier days, that stored energy powers the creation of our pieces. It’s a circular, responsible system that allows us to produce with a lighter footprint from the very beginning.

Low-Impact Materials

We’re committed to using the best sustainable fabric options available. The majority of our pieces are made from premium recycled materials, including Italian Carvico ECONYL®, derived partly from ocean waste, and REPREVE®, made from post-consumer plastic bottles.

Our current prints are produced using OEKO-TEX® certified eco inks, and printing is done in the same factory to reduce unnecessary transport and minimise emissions. The same approach extends to labels and packaging, much of which is made locally within the same facility to keep the supply chain efficient and responsible.

Where possible we use sustainable packaging and accessories such as biodegradable hygiene liners and tapioca-based packaging bags—choices that support our mission to deliver swimwear with integrity.

Giving Back With Every Piece

Every order placed with our manufacturing partner contributes to grassroots organisations that support environmental protection, women’s education, and community wellbeing. Proceeds from production automatically support the ROLE Foundation and BALI WISE, whose work spans zero-waste initiatives, community sustainability programs, and business education for local women.

Their team also provides ongoing environmental education to staff, helping drive real change—like eliminating single-use plastic bottles on site. The factory has even served as a key supporter of ROLE’s “Zero Waste to Oceans” Conference.

Ethical, People-First Production

Our manufacturing partner goes well beyond industry standards to ensure exceptional working conditions. Staff are paid above award wages—often up to three times standard rates—with full health insurance for themselves and their families, annual bonuses, and a profit-sharing program that includes all levels of the team.

Working hours are kept under 40 hours per week, overtime is voluntary and fairly paid, and meal allowances are provided. Staff have access to ongoing training, personal development programs, and complimentary Business English classes. Weekly Zumba and soccer sessions are also offered as part of a healthy, supportive workplace culture.

Why We Use Virgin Nylon in Select Pieces

While we proudly incorporate recycled fabrics across much of our range, some of our swimwear is crafted from premium virgin nylon. This choice is not made lightly.

Recycled nylon is a fantastic step forward for sustainability, but it can come with limitations—particularly in terms of fabric purity, durability, and colour performance. For certain designs, especially those requiring specific finishes, structure, or deep, rich colour tones, virgin nylon offers superior quality and longevity.

We continually assess the latest advancements in sustainable materials and remain committed to incorporating recycled options wherever possible, without compromising on the look, feel, and performance you expect from our swimwear.
